カシミヤは柔らかく高級な素材として知られていますが、採取される原毛のすべてが衣料用途に適しているわけではありません。

毎年生産されるカシミヤ原毛のうち、およそ20〜30％は繊維が粗く、従来の衣料用カシミヤとしては使われにくいとされています。こうした繊維は絨毯などの用途に使われるか、場合によっては処分されてしまうこともあります。

エコカシミヤは、このような原料をもとに開発された糸です。衣料用には不向きとされてきた粗いカシミヤ繊維を、紡績と編みの設計を調整することで、ニットとして使用できるレベルまで改良しています。

この糸は染色を前提とせず、原毛の自然な色をそのまま活かすことを基本としています。

一般的なカシミヤに比べると、風合いはややしっかりしていますが、その構造は耐久性や型崩れのしにくさにつながります。洗いと仕上げの工程を経ることで、カシミヤ特有の柔らかさや温かみが徐々に引き出されます。

Cashmere is widely known as a soft and luxurious fiber. However, not all raw cashmere is suitable for clothing.

Each year, roughly 20–30% of harvested cashmere fibers are considered too coarse for traditional apparel. Many of these fibers are used for carpets or other industrial materials, and some are simply discarded.
